and lest anyone forget, I do like to shoot guns.  But I’d give it up in a second if we could dispense with the stupidity here in the US.

  1. Club,

Maybe you could show us all how it should be done here in America by walking at night, unarmed in Chicago, screaming, “Hands up don’t shoot!”

Surely that will bring peace on Earth!

Or maybe you’ll just get your ass blown off.

    1. Why would I need to scream such things? I also do hope that you realize the size of Chicago and that it does have different neighborhoods. Now, SOM, it does seem that you are are terrified of people who are different than you. I was told, by twits like you, that I should never live in the city and that all people who are different from me are a threat. I choose not to believe that. Again, nice demonstration that you are a racist bigot. It’s a shame that all Christians have to share the same sobriquet with you and those twits like you.

I do recall that Christians claim that the arrival of their suppose savior was to bring “peace on earth”. How is that working out for you, SOM? I’m quite aware of the past conflicts and current conflicts between Christians, where those “other” Christians are claimed to be devil worshippers and worse. Why are you so afraid if your god is omnipotent and supposedly has your best interests at heart?

Again, as a person who uses such things as the Vatican and who thinks that the magic flood happened, what use are those buildings, SOM? Would your supposed savior approve of spending thousands, millions and billions of dollars and other resources to build such things? It seems you are unwilling to answer such a question.

    2. What I find fascinating is the fact that people in one of the most Christian nations, on a per capita basis, feel the need to be armed to protect themselves from their fellow citizens. Given that Christians are simply a large minority in Aotearoa New Zealand, and that the population is unarmed by choice, one must ask what is it that makes American Christians fear other Americans?

      1. a great way to see how poor SOM can’t actually address a question put to him and must create a strawman to attack as usual.

So, how many people kill with trucks and how many people kill with guns, SOM? You want to make the argument, now let’s see you support it. Of course, you won’t, you’ll just run away again.

And Jews all over Israel are getting stabbed with knives by desperate housewife Jihadis.

      3. Indeed. For people who claim that their god will protect them and give them magic presents, it seems that many, if not most, American Christians are terrified of everything and find that they must take actions themselves, ignoring the words of their very own bible. It’s as if they don’t really think that there is a magical omnipotent best friend in the sky that has their best interests at heart.

To expand on what I said earlier, it seems that a belief in a magical “evil” seems also to feed the idea of martyrdom and the idea of being special, by giving an idea of being threatened all of the time, and being important enough to be threatened. If nothing is actively out to “get” you, then you aren’t the martyr you fantasize yourself to be.

    3. The need for self-defense is a myth. We just need to trust people more!

Club also likes to keep her front door unlocked and her keys in the ignition of her car. Whenever she uses a public restroom, she leaves her purse on the sink before going into the stall.

No need to be afraid of different types of people.

      1. hmm, no idiotic claims that I am a piece of software anymore, Amanda? It’s rather hard for a piece of software to have a front door or a car. I guess you were just lying as always before when you claimed that you knew I was not human.

It’s always hilarious to watch Christians make up excuses on why they have to practice self-defense when their religion and their supposed savior said that Christians were never to stand up to evil, to turn the other cheek, etc. Their god promises to take care of them far better than the bird and flowers. But it doesn’t fulfill its promises at all, and golly, Amanda, it’s just darn inconvenient to actually follow what JC said if you are a TrueChristian as you claim you are. “39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. 41 If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.”

Now, since I don’t believe in magic fairies that will protect me, I do practice caution. I don’t need a gun to do so. I have a reason to be cautions of other humans; no god has claimed it will defend me against everything and take care of me. However, I do not need to be afraid of different types of people just because they are different. That’s the mindset of a bigot. I distrust people if I have a concrete reason, not just the idiocy that only people like me are the good guys, and anyone with a different skin color, culture, religion, are bad guys all and entire.

For example, I don’t trust Amanda at all because of her actions here on this blog, her lies and her refusal to answer questions. However, I know and trust many people who happen to be Christians. The religion doesn’t make a decent person.

      2. I don’t know what Bible you JZ programmed into you, Club, but mine talks about self-defense.
        (Luke 22:35, 36)

Also, I never claimed you were not human. I said I didn’t know. (And there’s STILL not enough evidence that you’re a real, thinking person for me to make a decision.) But, if you ARE a real person, you shouldn’t spread such ugly lies when I can easily take a screen shot to show what I actual said about not knowing whether you’re human or not.

      3. Hmmm it does say that JC said to buy swords, and for twelve guys, this is what JC says:

35 Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?”

        “Nothing,” they answered.

36 He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.
37 It is written: ‘And he was numbered with the transgressors’[b]; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment.”

38 The disciples said, “See, Lord, here are two swords.”

        “That’s enough!” he replied.”

What is most intriguing is that this isn’t mentioned in the other gospels. And what happens when the sword is used? JC yells at them for doing this. So, how do you see this silliness working out, Amanda? A god that says turn the other cheek, then tells the guys to get swords (but hey, 2 is enough) and then forbids their use. So, where again does your bible say that self-defense is what should happen? Matthew doesn’t mention JC saying go get swords and he rebukes the one of the apostles who does have a sword. “52 “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. 53 Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?”

55 In that hour Jesus said to the crowd, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courts teaching, and you did not arrest me. 56 But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples deserted him and fled.”

Then we have repeated instances where the apostles did nothing to keep from being taken prisoner, and being martyred.

So, Amanda, we have the bulk of the NT saying do nothing, JC himself saying to do nothing, and one bit in Luke where it says to get a sword, which is contradicted in each other gospel. Seems, as usual, your ignorance of the bible guts your nonsense.

There’s nothing showing that you are a human either. Hmmm, now what does that say about your supposed “logic” and you?

Hmmm, you mean a screen shot like this? Amanda's attempts at claiming I'm not human

        or this one:

        more of amanda's nonsense

at the bottom of this page is a lovely set of the big images of them to read in all of their glory: https://clubschadenfreude.com/2016/07/03/not-so-polite-dinner-conversation-a-month-since-the-reason-rally-what-happened-to-those-gift-cards/

why anyone can see just what you said right here: https://clubschadenfreude.com/2016/07/03/not-so-polite-dinner-conversation-a-month-since-the-reason-rally-what-happened-to-those-gift-cards/ every lovely little word that makes you such a twit.

And where I gathered all of your nonsense:

Amanda made the following post: “It’s not that I KNOW you’re software, Club. I don’t believe you’re a robot. I simply DON’T believe that you’re human. It’s an unbelief of mine. (There isn’t enough evidence.)”

So, when you made the following claims, you were making intentionally false comments when you claimed to know such things were true?

“…which is EXACTLY what a piece of software programmed to say exactly that would say…”

“So you admit it, JZ! The Club software is just a computer extension of yourself!”

“Exhibit A: Random phrases strung together. It’s hard to believe a human would put together a sentence like this!”

“Nope, sorry. That’s not something only a human could say.…because you just said it……and I’m pretty sure you’re software.”

“Thanks, Robo-Club! I’m glad you’re having fun! And I didn’t read anything after that, so I hope it wasn’t important…Now quiet for a minute. I’m trying to make some recommendations to JZ about how he can improve your subroutine so it’s not quite so obvious that you’re a computer.”

““She” (the software) picks up on key words in comments and then repeats them back in angry, almost-incoherent ways. The script is probably something like“You CLAIM [keyword]. Indeed, you are quite dishonest about [keyword]… Lies, lies, lies liar! No evidence for [keyword]!” (Note: The software asks for evidence, even to support general statements like, “I didn’t read your post about Ray.” Thus, no matter how you answer or don’t answer, she concludes you’re lying.)
Oooooooor, maybe she doesn’t really “conclude” at all…because computers don’t reason. They just recite. It’s brilliant, JZ! And every bit as annoying as I assume you (or whoever wrote the Club Software) intended. I won’t be convinced Club is a real person until I meet her face-to-face. Until then, there will always be room for doubt…and I will continue to only skim whatever she/the program spits out, which averages to about 10%. JZ–if you want me to take Club’s comments more seriously, you’ll need to work out some bugs.”

      4. Club–I’m not interested in arguing with JZ’s programming skills. Or with Google. Or with whatever source feeds you all of your information so that you can copy and paste it, like a machine, and bore me half to death.

You’re either the best-designed software I’ve ever encountered, or the most robotic human.

What’s annoying about talking to Fundamentalists–which includes many religious people AND most atheists–is the way Fundamentalists try to turn the Bible into a flow chart. You can’t pull out a few verses and use them like a math equation. Just because one person believes Jesus was a pacifist doesn’t mean I have to.

Anyway, if you were actually interested in learning from the Bible, you’d do the research yourself. You’d read articles (like this one: http://www.gotquestions.org/self-defense.html ) and consider the possibility that you don’t know as much about Jesus as you think.

        But, you’re not interested.

…Or…JZ still has some more work to do on “you”?

I guess I’ll never know which is the case.

If you ARE a human, then Jesus died for you, even though He knew you’d deny His very existence. It’s not too late to thank Him for your freedom and ask what He wants from you now.

        See ya next time!

      5. Of course you aren’t interested in supporting your lies, Amanda. Yep, you do so nicely as a constipated seagull. You try and try to shit on things and then when you fail, you fly off making excuses.

Hmmm, more false claims, how nice. It’s always great to see a Christian insisting that her version and only her version is the correct one and still being unable to support that claim. I am not pulling out a few verses and insisting that only my interpretation is the correct one. I showed several verses in context, and then allowed you to pull out the one singular verse that may be used to claim that JC was for using violence. Then I demonstrated that this singular verse makes no sense in context with the rest of the words of JC. Now, I’m waiting for you to support your claim when *you* have pulled out one verse in the bible, and have been unable to support a violent JC. It seems that you have done exactly what you falsely accuse me of, and you have done a most excellent job of showing that Christians do indeed make up what they believe the bible is saying by cherry picking it.

Yep, you don’t have to believe that JC was a pacifist. Another Christian can believe it and guess what? Both of you are making up fairy stories about a god that you’ve created in your own image.

Hmmm, now how is doing the research about the bible *myself* equal reading someone else’s opinions of the bible as in the nonsense at GotQuestions? I can read someone else’s opinions about the bible and they contradict those at GotQuestions and the folks at GotQuestions have no more evidence that their version is any more right than anyone else’s. How about going to the pages that Jews for Judaism have? The lovely website for Jehovah’s Witnesses and their claims that they hand out in the Watchtower magazine? Now, I’m still waiting for Christians to show that their version and only their version is right and everyone elses version (and religion for that matter) is wrong. Again, you can’t. You again lie when you say I’m not interested in knowing about Christianity and the bible. I’ll always point out your lies and it is always most curious that you seem to have no problem in ignoring your own bible when it comes to uttering falsehoods about others.

Please give the evidence that supports your claim that Jesus Christ, the supposed son of God, existed and died for me, Amanda. Since there is no evidence, there is no reason to believe such a character existed much less was a magical being and did anything. If the promises this character made are true, why can no Christians like you heal people as promised, Amanda? Are you not a baptized person who accepts JC as their personal savior? Is no self-professed Christian? There is no “freedom” to thank an imaginary character for. So many Christians want to pretend that they and their savior are saving people from something, though they can’t show what that something is. They want to claim that hell is the threat but they can’t show that it is. It’s the sad attempt to use fear to get control and get external validation for their own beliefs.

I’ve asked this god for help when I was losing my faith. funny how it did nothing at all. Rather suspect behavior for a being who had such stories told about it, when it can’t do anything now. One might think it is as imaginary as Thor, Zeus, Tezcatlipoca, Lugh, etc. Now, why did my prayers fail, Amanda? What excuse will you give?

  2. Hunting and shooting are popular pastimes in Aotearoa New Zealand, and it’s believed that the number of guns here is about four times the rate per capita of the United Kingdom. As guns are not registered here, the number is at best an estimate. But like in the UK, the police in NZ are not routinely armed.

I think that what both countries have in common is the belief that there is no need to carry weapons of any type for self defence (in fact, in NZ it’s illegal to do so). Here in NZ guns are thought of purely in terms of recreation – sports and/or hunting. Regulations on the storing of guns and ammunition make their use for self defence impractical anyway.

Do criminals have access to guns? Of course they do. But to use them against the police or general population is a rarity. The risks and consequences of doing so aren’t worth it. Guns, if used, are more likely to be used against other criminals.

I don’t know if the tide of gun carrying in the USA can be turned. People like SOM would suggest not, but I would like to think that one day America will be a safe place and that the general population will not feel the need to carry any weapon for defence.

    1. Barry, are automatic or semi-automatic weapons allowed in NZ? and you mentioned how guns and ammo should be stored, is it that they have to be separated in someway?

it often seems to me that the delusion that somehow Americans are “special” often feeds the idea that they are important enough for someone to want to “get” them, and this paranoia leads to folks thinking that they need guns to defend their “special” selves.

  3. MSSA (Military Style Semi-Automatic) weapons are allowed, but they do need to be registered. There’s also restrictions on the size of the magazine. Also gun owners need an endorsement to their firearms licence to own MSSAs.

Before you can get a licence, your home will be visited by the police to ensure that weapons and ammunition are stored securely and separately.

        Club,
Automatic weapons have been outlawed in the United States since the 1930’s.

        2016/07/17 at 10:00 am

New Zealand sounds like your average police state except for the fact that all the recidents are well conditions and trained (like dogs) to behave.

so, we have a bunch of unsubstantiated claims and ignorance. Way to go, SOM. Yep, automatic weapons have been outlawed in the US for a long time and no one said that they weren’t. And every gun show I’ve ever been to has kits on how to make weapons automatic.

Yep, jet liners were used in 9/11. No guns there. Again, we get to see SOM make up a strawman to attack rather than address the points made. Again, SOM, why is it that so many Christians need guns when they claim their god will take care of them? The birds in the air and the lilies of the field are taken care of, per JC and this god will take care of you far better than that. Yep, Jews and Christians can make good soldiers. Why is that your god said never to resist evil and that it would always take care of believers? Per your bible the Israelites didn’t have to fight to leave Egypt, but just walked out. Then the story changes, as we get closer to modern times where people don’t just accept such nonsense wholesale’ suddenly armies are needed. We have this god claim to always defend its believers and funny on how that never actually happens, humans have always had to defend themselves. Which version of your religion shall we find true, SOM? What the bible says or what Christians have invented?

“desperate housewife jihadis”? Again, nice attempt to try to create a strawman, SOM. Yep, people get stabbed. Israel is quite well armed and its army is everywhere. People still get stabbed. It seems your example shows that guns don’t do much to stop things.

Yep, reality can be scary. However, it is not always scary as you would try to claim. Now, SOM, please do show us how if I walk in Chicago I’m in mortal danger. You see, SOM, there are places that are more violent than others, but people live there. So if your claim that I will “get my ass shot off” is true, then there would be no one living there at all if your false claims where true.

You also make more false claims about New Zealand and its people. Why do you feel the need to make false claims that you know aren’t true, SOM? A police state? It’s sad that you would try to make such a comparison because it shows you have no idea what a police state actually is. Poor SOM doesn’t get his way so its a “police state”.

Still waiting for you to support your claims and answer questions, SOM.

        Like

      2. Do you understand what a police state is? Police in NZ have fewer powers than their counterparts in the US. They don’t have a right to present a firearm when stopping a vehicle with a broken tail light for example. The US imprison its citizens at many times the rate of any other country, and its police kill citizens at a tens of times higher than any other first world country. America has about 5% of the world’s population yet holds 25% of the world’s prison population. What does that tell you?

Look at any survey comparing freedom ranking by country. You will find NZ ranks well above the US. In fact we are usually in the top three, while the US is lucky to be included in the top 10, if no the top 20.

There’s far more to freedom than the privilege to carry a gun.

For a long time I subscribed to the mentality of “if guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns,” but eventually I realized that something’s gotta give. I admit that it would be a major logistical problem to get rid of guns in the US, but that doesn’t mean we should instead do nothing.

Perhaps updated gun laws should reflect this relationship more prominently. No certified training certificate, no permit.
