Not So Polite Dinner Conversation – christians taking a fit over “Imagine”

I didn’t watch the state funeral of President Jimmy Carter, but I have seen christains taking a fit since John Lennon’s song “Imagine” was sung by Garth and Trisha Yearwood at it. (memes at the bottom)

It was one of Jimmy and Rosalynn’s favorite songs, and President Carter asked for it to be sung at her funeral. Curious how these idiot christians manage to show that Jimmy was a good man that happened to be a christian, and being achristian doesn’t make you a decent person.

What i find most amusing about this is that so many christians claim they have no “religion” but a “relationship”. Seems that they must have forgotten that dodge they often try.

“The global aspects of the Carters’ lives as a president and first lady and as co-founders of the Carter Center influenced the inclusion of two songs about world peace near the end of the program.

Country music stars and Habitat for Humanity ambassadors Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks performed a soft and soulful version of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s “Imagine,” a favorite number of both Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter, which was released during his first year as governor of Georgia. In 2007, Carter called the song the “new international anthem.” – “‘Music was so important’: Rosalynn Carter honored at song-filled celebration of life in Atlanta”

“Brooks and Yearwood began singing a tender version of John Lennon’s “Imagine,” a song that Carter asked Brooks to perform at his funeral, CBS reported.

As Brooks played emotive acoustic guitar, he crooned the verses while videos of Carter spanning his career were shown alongside.” – “Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood sing ‘Imagine’ to honor Jimmy Carter”

“Former President Jimmy Carter, subject of the documentary “Man From Plains”:

“My favorite is ‘Imagine.’ When I go to a strange country, Cuba and other places, in some of those nations, ‘Imagine’ has become a national anthem. If you go to Havana, for instance, you’ll see a statue of John Lennon. … When we go to a folk performance or a symphony concert or to modern American music, they always play ‘Imagine,’ and it’s one of my favorites just personally. If you listen to the lyrics closely, you’ll see that it’s against religion, it’s against national boundaries, it’s against nationalism, it’s against jingoism, but the impact it has on people is profound.” “
