I got this response from a christian on my facebook post that reflected my post here about mass shootings:
“I stumbled upon your question. We’ve never met but I wanted to have a chance to try to respond to your question.
I am the survivor of csa and rape and robbery at knifepoint.
While I’ve had many great things, as well, the questions haunted me. If god is the great protector, why didn’t he protect me??
Does god exist or is god a story to help fools? Does he exist and love others, but not me? If so, why?
Rebecca Davis (Untwisting the Scriptures) explained to me that the Hebrew word “protection” is not “keeping bad things from happening,” but it’s better translated “frapping.”
To frap is to tie, to bind together, so no horror can separate the two. In the bible story of a guy named Paul who it’s said was in a brutal storm at sea, he and the other sailors “frapped” themselves to parts of the ship.
This makes sense to me. God sustained me by frapping himself to me. He didn’t choose to perform miracles at that time to stop all this, but I also reflect on the many times disaster was avoided or mitigated. Were those miracles?
If god chose to swoop in and perform miracles for every person every time disaster was about to strike, would anyone have free will, would we be truly free?
Would we love god only for keeping us from harm?
If so, would I want to be loved only for what I do?
Wouldn’t I want to be loved for who I am, and not just how I benefit others?
Just Qs I ask myself“
Not going to reveal her name, but this is just horrific to me. This is what cultists tell themselves to stay in the cult.
I wrote back:
wow that’s very disturbing and evidence of how christianity is no more than abuse wrapped up in a shroud of religion. your god lets bad things happen to you to make you depend on it. Thats all you have, XXXX. You try to lie to yourself and claim that this god cares and has protected you from things that never happened to make this sound acceptable.
Your bible has no free will in it. Your god repeatedly mind controls poeple so it has an excuse for genocide and murder (Exodus 4, Joshua 11, etc). Both jesus and paul say no free will, that this god has chosen who it will allow to accept it and then damns those who had no choice.
I want to be loved for what I do which is who I am, not for being a abusive asshole who allows people to be hurt so they depend on me.
I find it curious that “frap” is indeed a real word and it comes from the French “Middle English, to strike, beat, from Anglo-French fraper” merriam-webster

“God sustained me by frapping himself to me.“
Parallels the Virgin Mary story. Did the Virgin Mary frap with God during her impregnation? Did God enjoy the sex? And when you frapped with God while being raped, did he enjoy the sex? Does he frap with all the women who are being raped? That could explain why there are so many rapes. This shit is just too weird to be believed by anyone not blinded by religion. My rationale(s) may be a stretch, but not as much as being able to frap with God.

I owe you my thanks for doing the frapping work with this post 🙂 I realized I missed a perfect opportunity with the title of the post.
