As is often the case, a Christian tries to use April Fool’s Day to call all non-christians fools, including atheists. They regurgitate the same failed claims, and it’s always amusing since each one of them is evidence their god doesn’t exist since they cannot do what their Jesus promises.
The typical ignorance of the pastor, in this case, a Patrick Conley is evident in his baseless claims.
Let’s see how he fails (and yes, nothing much new if anything, just using the blog to keep this post since I’m rather sure that the pastor won’t allow it to be seen):
He claims causality is evidence for his imaginary friend. This means he is using a special pleading fallacy since he demands that his god doesn’t need a beginning. He also can’t show his god is the right god amonst the many that humans claim are the creator.
He also tries to claim his god is “spaceless and timeless”. Curious how the bible doesn’t agree with that since this god must travel, to see what’s happening at Babel, and makes personal appearances, having lunch with Moses and the elders.
He claims that there is “design”. He can’t show that there is design and if he wants to claim what we see as made by his god, that means his god is either an idiot or malicious. The sun gives us cancer, the human body causes thousands of people to choke to death every year. He may try to claim the “fall” made those problems, but then he can’t see what his god actually intended and thus no magical god design.
Then he claims DNA is a “code”. It fails horribly and often, so if it is a code, then his god is an idiot or malicious yet again.
Of course, he tries the argument from morality and that always fails since Christians do not agree on what morals their god wants and not one can show that their list is the right one. Their god harms children and the innocent since it punishes people for things they didn’t do, which means per Pastor Conley’s argument, his god is evil.
Christians often have to make excuses why their god doesn’t have to follow supposedly objective morality. Having one morality for their god and one for humans means that morality is subjective and is subject to who or what someone is. It does not apply universally.
The transcendental argument for god is the next up and it depends on a baseless presupposition by the Christian. They insist that reason and intellect can’t come from physics and chemistry. They insist that their god is needed. But they can’t show that it exists or why reason and intellect can’t come from physics and chemistry. We know we can generally trust our thoughts, and we know that theists can’t produce their gods, so why doubt this?
Similar to the transcendental argument is the argument from contingency, that their god is needed. Nothing shows that this is the case and again, where are these gods? It is also like the causality or cosmological argument, the theist must claim that their god doesn’t need a beginning and is non-contingent and that is only special pleading. No reason that the laws of physics can’t be just as “eternal”.
I always find it hilarious when these theists try to claim that “math” is evidence for their particular god. Math is a description of reality. It doesn’t need their god any more than reality does. Higher maths were not discovered because of their cult. They simply exist and simpler maths lead to them.
Then we get the claim that only the cult has truths, and only their god is the source of truths. When you can’t show your god exists at all, your presuppositions based on that fail too. We also get to see Conley show he has no idea what atheism is since it is a conclusion on one topic: do gods exist? He claims there are “other ways of knowing” and like all theists, he cannot show what these are and that they exist. Truth is reality and perception is how we interact with it.
Oh dear, then we get some very silly “ways”. Pastor Conley says that his desire for a god is evidence his god is real. Hmm, that would mean every single god ever worshiped by a human is as real as his god. It’s lovely when these Christians quote C.S. Lewis who is one of their worst apologists.
and finally, the claim that the resurrection is evidence that Christianity is true. Alas, for Conley, he has no evidence for the resurrection at all. No one noticed his jesus christ nor the events around the resurrection. The major earthquake, the darkening sky, and the dead jews wandering around roman-occupied Jerusalem were entirely missed by the Romans, the Jews and Paul himself.
He tries the “minimal facts” lies from Gary Habermas and fails since atheist scholars do not agree about an “empty tomb”, that their jesus existed as claimed in the bible, etc.
So, no his version of the Christian god isn’t real, and no version of the Christian god is real. So enjoy April Fool’s Day this spring. No one needs to worry about a silly religion that can’t support its claims or its sadistic fantasies.
