What the Boss Likes – Bloganuary #2 – What road trip would you like to take.

January 2 – What road trip would you like to take?

To bat country!    Which is a reference to one of the most demented and hilarious books, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream by Hunter S. Thompson.  The movie with Johnny Depp wasn’t bad, but do read the book.

““We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers… and also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of Budweiser, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.
Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.”

and a bunch more quotes.

Now, for a more serious answer.  I’d like to take a road trip into the Rockies, to satisfy my love of geology.  I’ve been to Mt. Rainier, which is terribly cool, but I’d like to see a *lot* of mountains.  We have little worn-out things here in Pennsylvania, the roots of several mountain building (orogeny)events over billions of years.  You can see the repeated folding and upheaval here.

  1. I shall read the book, or at least get it and add to my TBR list. I need a good one. I lived in Washington before returning to TX, and been on “The Mountain” — amazing stuff since they are all volcanoes up there. I hope all is well in PA. 🙂

  2. My best road trip ever wasn’t actually on a road. My brother-in-law had a 4-seater airplane, and he, my husband, and I spent two weeks flying around the American Southwest. We went to Carlsbad Caverns, the Grand Canyon, Oak Creek Canyon, Las Vegas (briefly), Disneyland, Universal Hollywood, the Queen Mary & Spruce Goose, and Pike’s Peak. All that in two weeks. We even buzzed over the Meteor Crater! Our flights were never late and our luggage was never lost. If I didn’t get so airsick I’d love to do something like that again.
