Some Catholics are touting how a recent Star Trek episode has that Captain Pike is a Catholic. The character mentions he was an “altar boy” and has him starting the lord’s prayer in a scene.
Now, anyone who has actually paid attention to Star Trek, knows that it has no problem with Christianity. We have the rather heavy handed episode “Bread and Circuses” where the romans are magically replicated on another planet and Uhura assumes that the “son” mentioned by the “rebels” is Jesus Christ. Kirk claims that there is only one god in “Who mourns for Adonais”. And we have what appears to be a Christian marriage in “Balance of Terror”.
Of course, that isn’t enough for Christians who demand to have their theocracy, with this Christian/Catholic coming out with this garbage: “Later Trek series, however, distanced themselves from human religion. Star Trek: Discovery hit bottom as a hopelessly woke ode to intersectionality, alternative lifestyles, over-emotionalism and secularism, brimming with pretentious agenda-driven dialogue that matched the worst fads of our time. This was far more than the 23rd-century crew sporting the beehive hairdos and miniskirts of the 1960s. The preachy series seemed designed for secular leftists. “
This shows exactly what so many Christians want: a theocracy. Tom Basile, is a typical Christian, a catholic who hates anything that isn’t obedient to himself.
“Venerable Archbishop Fulton Sheen warned nearly 75 years ago about the dangers of secular society and the normalization of not just atheism but a militant rejection of God. Just look at the data. It’s hard to argue that, as secularist forces have pushed us farther from biblical truth, humanity has suffered from a rot and decay that reaches into the very soul of billions of people. “
Basile and Sheen are both theocrats, touting their hate and ignorance on the media. Both show just how Christianity, here in its Catholic version, didn’t just tolerate fascism but embraced it, as long as it was useful. It’s notable how Basile is part of the “Order of the Holy Sepulchre” which is a crusader era bit of nonsense still supported by the Catholic Church.
“Its principal mission is to reinforce the practice of Christian life by its members in absolute fidelity to the pope; to sustain and assist the religious, spiritual, charitable and social works and rights of the Catholic Church and the Christians in the Holy Land, particularly of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem which receives some 10 million dollars annually in donations from members of the order”
no, not a cult at all.
““Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition! Our chief weapon is surprise… surprise and fear… fear and surprise… Our two weapons are fear and surprise… and ruthless efficiency…. Our three weapons are fear, and surprise, and ruthless efficiency… and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope… Our four… no… Amongst our weapons… Amongst our weaponry… are such elements as fear, surprise… I’ll come in again.””
Happily, Pike, Kirk, Picard, etc wouldn’t support Basile, and his cult at all. Star Trek has a long history of destroying cults and showing how control and hate don’t work.
“Well, here’s one thing you can be sure of, Mister. Leave any bigotry in your quarters, there’s no room for it on the bridge.”
“Excuse me, I’d just like to ask a question. What does God need with a starship?”
“With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably.”
“Without freedom of choice there is no creativity. The body dies.”
“The prejudices people feel about each other disappear when they get to know each other.”
“We prefer to help ourselves. We make mistakes, but we’re human, and maybe that’s the word that best explains us.”
“The only way to defeat fear is to tell it ‘No.’”
“Giving up our values in the name of security is to lose the battle in advance.””
Yep. I am not surprised. It is that bad.
