Not So Polite Dinner Conversation – Reflecting some more on the SCOTUS rescinding Roe v.Wade

I have the following. Please do feel free to borrow as you will.  I will guess that my Christian blog followers will be deathly silent.

We have had the pleasure of watching at least two Catholics (I had mistakenly called them evangelical Christians) lie under oath, Kavanaugh and Barrett. (most curious since evangelicals are sure that Catholics are heretics at best and satanworhippers at worst)  They took their oaths on bibles and per their god.  They claimed they would allow precedent to stand.  They lied, quite intentionally, and happily have shown that there is no reason to trust Christians at all.  I do wonder, do they think if they pray for “forgiveness” and their god will accept that, or will they simply treat it as a vending machine, doing what they want, and demanding forgiveness every time.   Hmmm, nothing like liars and hypocrites underlining how useless Christianity is.  They have shown that no one can trust a conservative Christian at all; they are cultists, little different from the Taliban.

In my latest Freedom from Religion Foundation newsletter, I have the story of Arely Hernandez, killed by Christians during a supposed “exorcism”.  They beat her to death and starved her until she died.  Her mother’s words were “It is what it is.”  So much for this religion being “pro-life”.  One has to wonder where this god was, since it supposedly could have stopped it.  Did its plan require a little girl to suffer and die?  Where are the Christians taking a fit about this?  Oh yes, they have much trouble criticizing other Christians since that means their own nonsense will be noticed.

Of course, these anti-choice people won’t agree to the fact, that since they wanted the children, it is up to them to provide good homes, good food, good medical care, good education, etc for *all* of these children. No one else now has that responsibility.  You wanted these children, you now must treat them well like any one who wants children should.

Clarence Thomas said out loud what the QOP desperately hoped he wouldn’t, that any and all rulings are up for grabs.  He mentioned marriage rights and contraceptive rights.  Unsurprisingly, he didn’t mention miscegenation rights – inter-racial marriage), being married to a white woman.   He is a hypocrite, as most, if not all, conservatives are.

The SCOTUS could have waited for next year to give this ruling.  They were idiots and did it a few months  before mid-term elections.  It’s as if they wanted the Democrats to win.  They QOP has nothing to whip their idiots into a frenzy anymore, and everyone else now knows that the Catholics and Evangelicals want to remove freedoms.

In all of history, it’s never been the good guys who take away freedoms and rights.   Christians have found themselves squarely as the “baddies”, even the “liberal” ones unless they do a damn good job of showing that they have nothing to do with the wannabee theocrats.

And for your convenience, let’s see how many times this god kills children or advocates their killing in the bible.

Whoever strikes his father or mother shall be put to death. -Exodus 21

If one curses his father or mother, his lamp will go out at the coming of darkness. -Proverbs 20

All who curse their father or mother must be put to death.  They are guilty of a capital offense. – Leviticus 20

Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods. In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully.  If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock.  Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it. – Deut 13

Anyone else who goes too near the Tabernacle will be executed.’ – Numbers 1

Make ready to slaughter his sons for the guilt of their fathers; Lest they rise and possess the earth, and fill the breadth of the world with tyrants. – Isaiah 14:21

The glory of Israel will fly away like a bird, for your children will die at birth or perish in the womb or never even be conceived.  Even if your children do survive to grow up, I will take them from you.  It will be a terrible day when I turn away and leave you alone.  I have watched Israel become as beautiful and pleasant as Tyre.  But now Israel will bring out her children to be slaughtered.”  O LORD, what should I request for your people?  I will ask for wombs that don’t give birth and breasts that give no milk.  The LORD says, “All their wickedness began at Gilgal; there I began to hate them.  I will drive them from my land because of their evil actions.  I will love them no more because all their leaders are rebels.  The people of Israel are stricken.  Their roots are dried up; they will bear no more fruit.  And if they give birth, I will slaughter their beloved children.” – Hosea 9

“Then I heard the LORD say to the other men, “Follow him through the city and kill everyone whose forehead is not marked.  Show no mercy; have no pity!  Kill them all – old and young, girls and women and little children.  But do not touch anyone with the mark.  Begin your task right here at the Temple.”  Hosea 9

And at midnight the LORD killed all the firstborn sons in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn son of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the firstborn son of the captive in the dungeon. Even the firstborn of their livestock were killed.  Pharaoh and his officials and all the people of Egypt woke up during the night, and loud wailing was heard throughout the land of Egypt. There was not a single house where someone had not died. – Exodus 12

“With you I will shatter nations and destroy many kingdoms.  With you I will shatter armies, destroying the horse and rider, the chariot and charioteer.  With you I will shatter men and women, old people and children, young men and maidens.  – Jeremiah 51

If even then you remain hostile toward me and refuse to obey, I will inflict you with seven more disasters for your sins.  I will release wild animals that will kill your children and destroy your cattle, so your numbers will dwindle and your roads will be deserted. – Leviticus 26

Anyone who is captured will be run through with a sword.  Their little children will be dashed to death right before their eyes.  Their homes will be sacked and their wives raped by the attacking hordes.  For I will stir up the Medes against Babylon, and no amount of silver or gold will buy them off.  The attacking armies will shoot down the young people with arrows.  They will have no mercy on helpless babies and will show no compassion for the children. – Isaiah 13

‘I will punish what Amalek did to Israel when he barred his way as he was coming up from Egypt.  Go, now, attack Amalek, and deal with him and all that he has under the ban.  Do not spare him, but kill men and women, children and infants, oxen and sheep, camels and asses.’ – 1 Samuel 15

Cursed be he who does the Lords work remissly, cursed he who holds back his sword from blood. – Jeremiah 48

When the Israelite army finished killing all the men outside the city, they went back and finished off everyone inside.  So the entire population of Ai was wiped out that day – twelve thousand in all.  For Joshua kept holding out his spear until everyone who had lived in Ai was completely destroyed.  Only the cattle and the treasures of the city were not destroyed, for the Israelites kept these for themselves, as the LORD had commanded Joshua. – Joshua 8

They completely destroyed everything in it – men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep, donkeys – everything. – Joshua 6

And since you have turned your back on me, I will bring disaster on your dynasty and kill all your sons, slave or free alike.  I will burn up your royal dynasty as one burns up trash until it is all gone.  I, the LORD, vow that the members of your family who die in the city will be eaten by dogs, and those who die in the field will be eaten by vultures.’”  Then Ahijah said to Jeroboam’s wife, “Go on home, and when you enter the city, the child will die.  – 1 Kings 14

The men of Israel withdrew through the territory of the Benjaminites, putting to the sword the inhabitants of the city, the livestock, and all they chanced upon.  Moreover they destroyed by fire all the cities they came upon. – Judges 20

All of you who are on the LORD’s side, come over here and join me.” And all the Levites came.  He told them, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: Strap on your swords! Go back and forth from one end of the camp to the other, killing even your brothers, friends, and neighbors.”  The Levites obeyed Moses, and about three thousand people died that day.  Then Moses told the Levites, “Today you have been ordained for the service of the LORD, for you obeyed him even though it meant killing your own sons and brothers. Because of this, he will now give you a great blessing.” – Exodus 32:

Then he took a spear and rushed after the man into his tent. Phinehas thrust the spear all the way through the man’s body and into the woman’s stomach.  So the plague against the Israelites was stopped, but not before 24,000 people had died. – Numbers 25

The Lord struck the child whom Uriah’s wife bore to David, and it became very ill. 16 David therefore pleaded with God for the child; David fasted and went in and lay all night on the ground. 17 The elders of his house stood beside him urging him to rise from the ground, but he would not, nor did he eat food with them. 18 On the seventh day the child died. – 2 Samuel 12

Happy shall they be who take your little ones and dash them against the rock! – Psalm 137

Their infants will be dashed to pieces before their eyes;their houses will be plundered and their wives raped. – Isaiah 13

Thus says the Lord: I am about to fill all the inhabitants of this land—the kings who sit on David’s throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem—with drunkenness. 14 And I will dash them one against another, parents and children together, says the Lord. I will not pity or spare or have compassion when I destroy them. – Jeremiah 13

23 He went up from there to Bethel, and while he was going up on the way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him, saying, “Go away, baldhead! Go away, baldhead!” 24 When he turned around and saw them, he cursed them in the name of the Lord. Then two she-bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys. 2 Kings 2

Because you have trusted in your chariots, in the multitude of your warriors,14 therefore the multitude of war shall rise against your people,  and all your fortresses shall be destroyed, as Shalman destroyed Beth-arbel on the day of battle, when mothers were dashed in pieces with their children.15 Thus it shall be done to you, O Bethel,  because of your great wickedness. – Hosea 10

Samaria shall bear her guilt because she has rebelled against her God; they shall fall by the  word; their little ones shall be dashed in pieces, and their pregnant women ripped open. – Hosea 13

Yet she became an exile; she went into captivity; even her infants were dashed in pieces at the head of every street; lots were cast for her nobles;  all her dignitaries were bound in fetters. – Nahum 3

Of course, there are many more (and surprising, how much this god has against farm animals since it senselessly requires those killed too).   Now, funny how this god promises it won’t harm children for what the parents do: 18 The word of the Lord came to me: What do you mean by repeating this proverb concerning the land of Israel, “The parents have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge”? As I live, says the Lord God, this proverb shall no more be used by you in Israel. Know that all lives are mine; the life of the parent as well as the life of the child is mine: it is only the person who sins who shall die. – Ezekiel 18

All of the above can be found right here in just about any version you’d like to f – Biblegateway.com

So, was this god lying?  Is this god’s morality subjective aka situational?  And hmm, since this god never wanted Adam and Eve to know what evil and good were, one has to wonder if it didn’t want them to question it when it does such things and knew such things were coming.    The only reason that, per the bible, that humans have morality is because Eve gave it to them.  And then perhaps you have to thank the ol’ snake itself.

The common Christian excuse is “oh well, they are better off in heaven.”  Nothing is quite so cold and so selfish.

Not So Polite Dinner Conversation – “Florida abortion ban violates Jews’ religious freedom, lawsuit says”

A Jewish congregation, Congregation L’Dor Va-Dor, has sued the nitwits in Florida over their abortion law. Unsurprisingly, conservative Christians, in their attempts to create a theocracy that is only for them, ignore that other people, including other theists, don’t agree with their baseless nonsense.

“Florida’s ban on abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy violates the religious freedom of Jews because Jewish law requires the procedure in some cases, a Boynton Beach synagogue said in a lawsuit.

The lawsuit, filed in state court on Friday by Congregation L’Dor Va-Dor, also says that the abortion ban violates the right to privacy guaranteed by the state constitution.” – “Florida abortion ban violates Jews’ religious freedom, lawsuit says” Reuters

Repeatedly, it is demonstrated that conservative Christians are just out for control, nothing more. They care for nothing but themselves. They have no interest in helping families and children after the child leaves the vagina, consistently attempting to cut any aid. We can see that desire to in Gov. Scott’s proposal that “Under Point Six, which aims to shrink the size of the federal government, Scott writes, “All federal legislation sunsets in 5 years. If a law is worth keeping, Congress can pass it again.” Scott also writes that he would: “Force Congress to issue a report every year telling the public what they plan to do when Social Security and Medicare go bankrupt.””

Now, Factcheck.org (source of the quote above) tries to claim that this doesn’t exactly say that Republicans, and therefore, conservative Christians want to kill entitlements. They are right, it doesn’t literally say that they will. However, we have seen them try to kill these programs for decades. It is naive to think that they will not do their best to at the very least cut these programs to the bone. The people at Factcheck also state that Scott was lying when it claimed that Social Security, Medicare would go bankrupt, which is yet another part of the false claim invented to get rid of these programs.

We can see this demonstrated as recently as the last administration, with their tax cuts for the wealthy and no replacement for that funding. This is old Republican tactic as noted here:

“Starve the beast” is a political two-step that first generates deficits through tax cuts and, second, points to the alarmingly high deficits to attack government spending and reduce entitlements. Credited to an unnamed Reagan administration official in 1985 and long associated with Reagan economic guru David Stockman, the notion of “starve the beast” emerged from around the time of Reagan’s 1981 tax cuts, which were not paired with simultaneous spending reductions.

Reagan held that higher deficits would naturally lead to budget reductions: “We can lecture our children about extravagance until we run out of voice and breath. Or we can cure their extravagance by simply reducing their allowance.”

Today, you can see the “starve the beast” tactic clearly in the 2017 tax cuts—the main cause of the projected record deficits—to future spending cuts. Trump’s top economic adviser Larry Kudlow, a veteran of the Reagan administration, has made this argument himself. He explicitly invoked “starve the beast” in a 1996 Wall Street Journal op ed

“Tax cuts impose a restraint on the size of government. Tax cuts will starve the beast… Specifically, tax cuts provide a policy incentive to search for market solutions to the problems of Social Security, health care, education and the environment.”

It would be no surprise to learn that Kudlow, who now heads Trump’s National Economic Council, is pursuing the same course today. ” – “Trump’s Second-Term Plan For Social Security: Starve The Beast”

Unsurprisingly, and unfortunately, you simply can’t believe these conservative Christians and Republicans when it comes to promises they won’t try to force their religion on others and remove necessary government programs.

Not So Polite Dinner Conversation – it’s time to stand up, liberal Christians

Unsurprisingly, conservative Christians are doing all they can to turn the US into a theocracy.  They want to control everyone, not just women, not just LGBT… folks, not just people of different religions, etc. Everyone.  All based on their belief that some god wants this.  They of course can’t show this god even exists or theirs is the right version.  They find they must invent a god that agrees with them.

They are trying to claim that the US constitution determines the laws of this land and if it doesn’t mention something, those laws can’t be on the federal level.  McConnell is of course now wanting a federal level law to make abortion illegal, which shows just how much conservative Christians lie when they have claimed how much they want states to have the ability to rule on abortion the way the people want:

“If the leaked opinion became the final opinion, legislative bodies — not only at the state level but at the federal level — certainly could legislate in that area, And if this were the final decision, that was the point that it should be resolved one way or another in the legislative process. So yeah, it’s possible.”

They don’t care about that at all.  They want their way no matter what, democracy be damned. And evidently their god be damned since it says not to lie and they have chosen to do so.

It’s notable that some of the justices are also now shown to have lied under oath with their claims of respecting precedent.

Of course, these cowards are sitting behind a fence to protect them, something that they refused to allow when it came to women getting their legal healthcare.

It is time for everyone to stand up against this, and for anyone who wants to claim they are a Christian, just not THAT type, to be loud to show us there is a difference.  If not, they are going to be responsible for the destruction of the freedoms of the US because of their tacit acceptance of this nonsense.   If there is a theocracy, there can only be one “church”.

Which is more important?  Your freedoms or your need to circle the wagons to protect your religion?

Not So Polite Dinner Conversation – one more theocratic Christian cult in the US

From the Washington Post:

“The church is called Mercy Culture, and it is part of a growing Christian movement that is nondenominational, openly political and has become an engine of former president Donald Trump’s Republican Party. It includes some of the largest congregations in the nation, housed in the husks of old Baptist churches, former big-box stores and sprawling multimillion-dollar buildings with private security to direct traffic on Sundays. Its most successful leaders are considered apostles and prophets, including some with followings in the hundreds of thousands, publishing empires, TV shows, vast prayer networks, podcasts, spiritual academies, and branding in the form of T-shirts, bumper stickers and even flags. It is a world in which demons are real, miracles are real, and the ultimate mission is not just transforming individual lives but also turning civilization itself into their version of God’s Kingdom: one with two genders, no abortion, a free-market economy, Bible-based education, church-based social programs and laws such as the ones curtailing LGBTQ rights now moving through statehouses around the country.

This is the world of Trump’s spiritual adviser Paula White and many more lesser-known but influential religious leaders who prophesied that Trump would win the election and helped organize nationwide prayer rallies in the days before the Jan. 6 insurrection, speaking of an imminent “heavenly strike” and “a Christian populist uprising,” leading many who stormed the Capitol to believe they were taking back the country for God.”

Apologies if you’ve read WaPo articles and this is behind the pay wall for you. Let me know.

More hateful bigots aka theocrats on the rampage. This is why I stand against theist nonsense.

Not So Polite Dinner Conversation – wanting a theocracy? Certainly seems so. Also, cheating for fun and profit

not really sure who he is other than an actor and Catholic

In my last blog post, I pointed out how Trump and his minion Sessions are doing their best to create a theocracy in favor of their supporters conservative Christians. I then had some a conservative Christian, silenceofmind, participate in my comments. He asked what religion was being favored, and promised as soon as I told him, he would answer my questions. He of course lied and never answered the questions put to him. Still waiting, but why would one expect a conservative Christian to be honorable at this point?

He did his best to try to convince me, and others, that the “religious freedom” document released by Trump and Sessions wasn’t only for conservative Christians who have repeatedly tried to get their version of their religion treated as law. Seems he forgot this gem of Donnie’s: “I’ll tell you one thing: I get elected president, we’re going to be saying “Merry Christmas” again. Just remember that. And by the way, Christianity will have power, without having to form. Because if I’m there, you’re going to have plenty of power. You don’t need anybody else. You’re going to have someone representing you very, very well. Remember that.”- January 23, 2016, Dordt College, Sioux City, Iowa.

Always fun to see again and again how wrong someone can be and how hard they try to avoid being caught.

He kept on with this on his own blog where more lies were told by an even greater number of TrueChristians™.   Oh, the hairshirts were worn and the ashes were scattered on how anyone daring to disagree with their version of their religion was a “mortal danger” to that religion. They of course forget that there are plenty of Christians who don’t agree with them at all.

And now we have even more evidence that yes, Trump and Sessions are indeed trying to create a theocracy for their conservative Christian followers, followers who ignore their very own bible when it comes following a man like Trump: Exodus 23:1 You shall not spread a false report. You shall not join hands with the wicked to act as a malicious witness” (and yes, Christians I can quote the bible and hold you accountable to that which you claim is the “truth”.  Also, humans being against liars and lying isn’t anything new to the human race.  It’s really pathetic when you try to claim that it is only a Christian view. See Code of Hammurabi)

Sessions, when building this memo, had “listening sessions” that unknown people were invited to. The Department of Justice has yet to release this information on who got a chance to give input to this memo. However, we can count on conservative Christian groups to be loud when they want to make their version of their religion law. The Alliance Defending Freedom, a group that has to spell that out in their name since no one could tell from their actions, has spilled the beans and let everyone know that they were invited and they are please that they, an organization that only defends conservative Christians, got their way. The Family Research Council (only for families that fit their description) was also hot to trot on this memo, to the point of already having things in place for it before it was announced. Most curious, that. It seems that Tony Perkins, often a guest of the White House, may have had a hand in the cookie jar, when the memo has that religious groups may be funded by the gov’t, who would choose one sect of a religion over another and one religion over another to make these decisions.

Of course, not one liberal Christian group has announced their involvement in these “listening sessions”. What they are doing is denouncing the memo and pointing out that it is indeed only meant to protect bigotry and ignorance.

We also have a lovely story today about Roy Moore, the fellow in Alabama who tried to get the ten commandments into a courthouse. Well, evidently those commandments and that bible doesn’t mean much to ol’ Roy since he intentionally lied when he said he wasn’t paid by his non-profit, ironically called The Foundation for Moral Law. It’s amazing how being paid $180,000 a year and needing a bodyguard (so much for faith, eh?) might slip a man’s mind and just be “forgotten” to be put on the major form that the IRS requires from charities, the 990 (I worked for a non-profit so know these well). It’s a shame that he and his family (they are of course employed by the onstensible “charity”) decided to lie to the government that is put into place by his god, if one believes Romans 13. One can guarantee many excuses will be given by TrueChristians™ about this, desperate to acknowledge that one more Christian has lied and has profited by the lying.

So, SOM, JB and all the other conservative Christians out there seeking to try to spread false information, your fellow Christians just let the figurative cat out of the bag and have indeed been behaving badly.   Your supposed messiah president lied to one group when he said he supported LGBT people and then betrayed them. He can be quoted as promising worldly power to conservative Christians. A much lauded conservative Christian has been discovered to be ignoring his ever-so important godly commandments Now, what does the bible say about liars and those who follow them?   What verse says this is just peachy and okay?

Not So Polite Dinner Conversation – wannabee theocrats marching in DC today

what pro-control people want women to believe
what pro-control people want women to believe

Today there is a “march for life” in Washington, DC. There are a lot of women there, who insist that they are feminists. There may be some men who also would claim this, since being a feminist isn’t limited by sex. They all declare that they are “for life”, aka against abortion and birth control.

These people want to control others, and that is all they want to do. They want to tell women that they can’t. They can’t make their own decisions. They can’t believe what they want. They can’t be trusted to be intelligent enough to know what they want. They aren’t feminists, they are wolves in sheeps clothing. Feminism isn’t about telling a woman “no”. It’s about knowing that a woman can make her own decisions and that supporting women is important.

These wannabee theocrats demand that their opinion become law, that no one may choose to disagree with them. They want women to be punished for daring to make their own decisions and not obeying them. They claim that women need their help because of a myth with a talking snake. Most, if not all of them, want their particular version of one religion to be the law of the land, conservative Christianity. Of course, they can’t agree on which version of Christianity they want. They may insist that each other is doing to hell for accepting the Pope, for not accepting the Pope, for being baptized in one way or another, being divorced or not divorced, but they are harnessed in the same yoke for this one reason, in their pure hypocrisy.

They want to claim that they are for life, but they are against anything that would help the children that they wish forced on others to live. They are for punishment and obedience. They support the murder and terrorism of those who believe different than they do. They want no assistance be given to assure that these children have healthy food and a safe home. They want to keep families from having affordable health insurance. They want no assistance given to assure that these children have a good education, no matter if they are wealthy or poor . They want none but their religion taught to these children and they want only the families they approve of to take care of these children. They depend on lying to women to convince them to have children, intentionally misleading women by how they name their services. After the uterus is vacated, they are not interested.

Caring for another isn’t important at all, only forcing a woman to bear a child she cannot support, either financially or emotionally. They pretend that their churches will help these women but every shelter everywhere is desperate for money despite that there are pages upon pages of churches and other religious organizations in the phone book. They haven’t taken care of these families so far, so why should anyone believe that they will now?

These conservative Christians prate that this god would never give a woman more than she could handle, but they turn their heads when these women harm or kill themselves and their children because they could not handle those things, no matter how much they prayed and others prayed for them. They needed real help and that real help requires that people support them through real resources, resources payed by taxes and given to everyone, not just people who agree with the taxpayers or obey the rules of a religion that has no more evidence that it is true than any other religion.

These people want to take over the government, and force their religion on everyone. For all of their false claims of being unable to make their own choices, they do their best to remove the ability to choose from others. For all of their false claims of being pro-life, they do their best to ensure that those lives suffer as much as possible.

Hypocrisy personified, when this woman thinks she is being silenced and she’s walking down streets in the nation’s capital saying  exactly what she wants.

Not So Polite Dinner Conversation – AU blog post “Texas Theocrat Says Voting For Trump Is OK Because God Has ‘A Different Standard’”

Amazing the excuses that some Christians will use.

“David Barton, the Religious Right’s favorite phony historian, is trying to sell his base on voting for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. But where most of Barton’s allies have resorted to pumping up Trump by dumping on Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, Barton acknowledges Trump’s flaws – but says they don’t matter because Trump has been chosen by God to lead the United States.

Furthermore, Barton says, if you don’t vote for Trump, God might hold you accountable.” – http://au.org/blogs/wall-of-separation/desperate-plea-texas-theocrat-says-voting-for-trump-is-ok-because-god-has-a

Barton is a notorious liar in history, politics and religion.  He does serve as a great example of a TrueChristian and I have to thank him for demonstrating just how idiotic the Christian god is by listing all of the bad choices for leaders this god made.

Addendum:  and now another Christian pastor is sure that Trump is here to prepare the way for JC and the “end times”.  http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/trump-christian-liaison-god-raised-trump-help-pave-way-second-coming

Not So Polite Conversation – when thievery is a “right” and a Republican/Teaocrat is horrified that he’s asked to show ID

tea and hypocrisyHere in the US, we have a system where there are public lands held in trust for the American people by our government. It keeps some of our environment relatively untouched so we won’t lose everything to the greedy and ignorant, who will trash one piece of land and simply move onto another one.

Some of this land is leased out to farmers to use as pasturage for their herds, with the assumption that herds can’t do much damage to the land. The fees for this pasturage go to the government which uses them to pay for all of the things that the American people enjoy, like infrastructure, law enforcement, the military, etc.

Of course, there are some people who want something for nothing, to have the benefits of a thing and not pay for it. Now, the political right in this country usually claims that these people are those on the public dole, that they don’t deserve anything for “free”. But when their gods and guns minority insist that they can have something for nothing, they insist that this is perfectly fine. This is what has happened when a family has decided that they can use something that belongs to all Americans for free and reap a profit from its use. The Bundys, and their supporters, have decided that they are “free” to do what they want and take what they want. They have used mob mentality and the threat of violence to get their way, at least for now. They are thieves and bullies, nothing more, deciding that they can take but having a fit if anyone else dares to do the same thing. Such lovely and expected hypocrisy.

Bets on if the Bundys have applied for government assistance for their farm?  I wonder if a Freedom of Information act request could dig that out.

Speaking of bullies and hypocrites, we also have Mike Huckabee being “shocked, shocked” that anyone would ask him to prove who he is.

“My gosh, I’m beginning to think that there’s more freedom in North Korea sometimes than there is in the United States. When I go to the airport, I have to get in the surrender position, people put hands all over me, and I have to provide photo ID and a couple of different forms and prove that I really am not going to terrorize the airplane – but if I want to go vote I don’t need a thing.”

Aw, poor Mike, I’ll pay for you to have a one way ticket to North Korea. You can then show us how free they are there.  Or how about Saudia Arabia, a nice theocracy?  Surely you’d like that since you want one here….?

It’s hilarious to see him whine about having to do exactly what he supported to have done in the aftermath of 9/11. It’s even better to see him whine that people don’t have to show anything to vote. So, what do you want, Mike? No security checks for upper class white men like you, but make anyone who wants to vote have to prove who they are? Isn’t it great that *those* efforts are concentrated in areas that are not predominantly white and upper class?

Why, let’s see what Mike Huckabee says about how a great “security” is:

I guess it’s okay unless poor Mike finds himself inconvenienced.

Just another day for tea and hypocrisy.

Not So Polite Dinner Conversation – Cue wailing, gnashing of teeth

don't you loooove the hypocrisy?
don’t you loooove the hypocrisy?

If it hasn’t started already, we can expect much wailing and gnashing of teeth.  Predictions of “Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria”.  All because the prayers of so many TrueChristians have not been heeded by a imaginary deity and they did not get their way. In case you haven’t heard, the Supreme Court of the US (SCOTUS)has ruled against the federal “Defense of Marriage Act” and has let the lower court ruling stand in the Prop 8 case.

Happily, we in the US have moved ahead again with our ideal of equal rights for all.  We still have those who want to hide under the skirt of “states rights” to try to continue to allow unequal treatment of citizens under the law.(it’s funny,  it seems only awful things are defended when it comes to “states rights”)   We still have those who want to claim “religious freedom” for themselves, but who have no problem limiting the religious freedom of others.  We still have those who want to keep those they don’t agree with from voting.  Those people have lost again.

I know that there were many many MANY people praying hard for their god to force the SCOTUS to rule in their favor, on both sides of the issue, though I’m guessing much more magical thinking by silly theocrats.  And it seems, as always, there is no god to appeal to.  There is no side that has some omnipotent deity on its side where it always wins.  What we do see is that, at least here in the US, we still move forward and nonsense preached from a book several thousand years old will be supplanted by better ideas not based on superstition and ignorance (see slavery).

I’m sure we’ll  have predictions by twits like Pat Robertson that we’ll get some horrible divine retribution since poor Pat et al haven’t got their way.  And we’ll see again that they fail and that they are nothing more than spoiled brats that haven’t quite yet realized that they don’t get their way anymore. Then will come the excuses on why they and their supposed god failed again.  We will hear that this god is just waiting to teach us a lesson aka “I’ll show you, I’ll show you all!”. We’ll hear that this god has some magical reason why he ignored his ever-so special “chosen” people who are very sure that this god intervenes constantly.  But we’ll rarely hear that they were wrong and that they are sorry (sometimes we do, and then watch other TrueChristian take a fit).  They and their god are rather like supervillains in that way.
