Not So Polite Dinner Conversation – too soon? Too bad.

There were at least 125 mass shooting events at schools and religious organizations between 2000 -2025 with more than 2 fatalities or more than 3 casualties.  Yesterday’s shooting at a catholic school is just one more.

Curious how the various gods, including the christian god, failed in every single one of them.  Many Christians claim that their god isn’t to be expected to offer physical protection, despite the promises of protection in their bible.  I wonder why since it repeatedly gives that in their bible too.

Isaiah 41
Isaiah 54
Exodus 14
Judges 7
1 Samuel 17
john 10
Luke 4
and don’t forget about Daniel.

Seems they are simply making excuses for a god that doesn’t exists. They make excuses and they blame the victim. Their cults fail and deserve no respect or consideration at all.

  1. Killed in church, might as well take that lightening rod off the roof, stop wearing seat belt, stop going to a doctor when you’re sick and all the things your God should be protecting you from.

They will blame the shooter but never ask themselves why God allowed him to commit this barbaric act. They will blame everything except their own precious God.

      1. When the shooter is a white male, it is all prayers and thoughts and how did he fall through the cracks. I gave up after the Sandy Hook shooting. If we couldn’t come together over the shooting dead of 20 defenseless six- and seven-year-olds in a perceived safe environment, well to me, all hope was gone. Unfortunately, I believe it is hopeless because the evidence (still) screams at me. Since then there have been multiple shootings and nothing has changed. American society has adjusted to accept these tragedies. Again, I believe it is hopeless.

      2. one thing we do, and I think it’s dangerous: we make a huge public deal about it. So the kid who did the shooting can say, ‘yep, that’s ME’. They are still showing that dreadful Sandy Hook thing on TV as far as I know, and I wish they’d stop.

    1. God’s got nothing to do with it. Most times it’s an angry kid, or teen, he has access to Dad’s gun collection, maybe he’s been kicked out of school or his dad hits him too hard for no reason. and he’s angry, angry. He wants to get back at something, someone, anyone.
That’s not an excuse, but it seems that the shooters are totally angry, hurt, it’s almost like a reverse suicide. Trouble is, we try to treat the problem, but not what caused it. Like blaming measles on the person who gets it.

And the kids who do this? They’re often the quiet one who got picked on because he
“smelled funny” or the guy with the limp, someone who just lost his girlfriend and isn’t sure why…they were kicked out of class, out of school, no one cared enough to actually talk to them or ask what was wrong…

And if you have a father or brother who worships guns but not people, it’s how you’re brought up.

  2. Yep. Sandy Hook proved that we as a country don’t care about dead kids. Or at least, the movers and shakers and wealthy don’t care…can’t get in the way of all the profit made!

  3. What I don’t get is, we went to school all our lives, late 50’s through the 60s and into the 70’s. We never gave a single thought to someone coming in to the school and randomly killing people; children, whomever. How did this now become normalized? How have we been able to close our eyes as a society and listen to elected leaders that tell us that the solution to this insanity is even more guns, in more of our most familiar haunts; schools, bars, stadiums, churches? How have we become convinced that the problem is we don’t have enough guns? That we need to arm teachers. Teachers. Let the soak in…….We need to arm teachers, in their classrooms. That is their solution. Not that we need better controls over who can purchase or own or even come near a firearm. No, no. That would upset their corporate masters that dole out the cash. Can’t have that. So we’ll keep electing the same miscreants, liars, and con artists that sell us the same snake oil, year and year, shooting after shooting, and see if anything changes and hope, against all hope, that it doesn’t happen to us.

The fact is it’s not normal. Not at all. This is the only country on the world where this happens, everyday. We all know this, and continue on the same path to insanity. What do you call that?

    1. yep, it’s not normal at all and I keep thinking I really need to move somewhere else other than the US. The idea of guns solving problems seems a peculiar US trope and I have no good idea why.
