While I'm sitting here listening to the soundtrack of Rocky Horror Picture Show (my husband introduced me to this when we first were dating), let me show you some cool links. From the Back Room – Belgian Golden Ale
Looking for a lighter color ale, if not lighter in taste and alcohol, we recently brewed up a Brewer’s Best Belgian Golden Ale kit. The kit ran about $32 and made a case of 16 oz returnable Genny bottles plus another dozen or so 16 oz flip tops and 12 oz bottles. The beer is … Continue reading From the Back Room – Belgian Golden Ale
From the Bar and Kitchen – Pizza break
A pizza break to get away from the stultifying theist nonsense and give my poor eyes a rest. This weekend’s meal and a movie is homemade pizza and “The Spirit”. The movie, “The Spirit” is from 2008. It was a riff on what made Sin City popular, stylized graphics, hyperviolence and a distinctly noir feel. … Continue reading From the Bar and Kitchen – Pizza break
From the Kitchen and Bar – This American’s Burger
Few things are as tasty as a good burger. But those are so very hard to find. Through the Food Network and the Cooking Channel, we have been taught that a good burger must be too thick to bite easily and half-raw to simulate succulence. They are piled with every conceivable thing in the name … Continue reading From the Kitchen and Bar – This American’s Burger
From the Kitchen and Back Room – Did she really make fresh bao? (and beer and wine?)
Being a foodie, I love to try new things. Husband and I have been talking about going on vacation to a city with a good selection of dim sum restaurants. Being a Firefly fan, I like to try things I see on that dearly departed show. Now, I’ve a lot of experience with fresh strawberries … Continue reading From the Kitchen and Back Room – Did she really make fresh bao? (and beer and wine?)
From the Bar and From the kitchen – Box wine and snacks
I love box wine. I love it for the taste and for the convenience, and it’s pretty “green” so I can feel good about that too. I’ve had lots of bottled wines. Some that were supposedly “good”, including some Chateau Neuf de Pape and Beaujolais nouveau, were pretty “meh”. The one of the earliest wines I … Continue reading From the Bar and From the kitchen – Box wine and snacks
What the Boss Likes – Random things that have recently made me happy
For a very much needed vacation from the idiocy of the world, here are a few things that have made me happy Nadia G’s bacon chocolate - Didn’t use maple cured bacon, or a mold (just scoops on a parchment paper) and only had coarse kosher salt to sprinkle on them. But they turned out fabulous. We tried the Vosges … Continue reading What the Boss Likes – Random things that have recently made me happy
From the Bar – Spodee Wine
Sometimes my redneck heritage gets the better of me. I don’t have a “sophisticated” palate by any means, pretty much liking what I like. And I like Spodee, all the red-neck, prohibition shine runner, Whiskey Rebellion (right at home in western PA) silliness of it all. My dad was given a jar of moonshine from … Continue reading From the Bar – Spodee Wine
A Night Out – Cobblestone’s Restuarant and Sports Emporium
Central PA is dotted with a lot of small cities, all about what was a day’s horseback ride from the next. York, PA is one of these and home to one of my favorite bar/restaurants, Cobblestone’s. Oh and again, this isn’t a “night out”, more like a “mid-afternoon out”. Lots of pictures so follow the … Continue reading A Night Out – Cobblestone’s Restuarant and Sports Emporium
From the Bar – Shine
Thanks to a commenter, Doug Fo, I will have to say that Philadelphia Distilling's Shine is pretty damn fine with tart lemonade as he suggested. It makes what I would call a rather American version of a margarita. Definitely something to keep on hand during the summer.
