What the Boss Likes – got a bat in my office

Found a little fellow at work, very cold from being in our unheated but protected entryway, but feisty when I moved him into a box, hissing and stretching out his wings. Our building is a old mansion so has some critters living in it. Currently, he’s rustling around in his box where I have it on top of my computer to keep him warm.

I’m working to find a rehabber since it is so cold here he can’t be released outside.

addendum: someone from the PA Bat Conservation and Rehabilitation is coming to get the little fellow.

you can see his little feet on the box edge.

  1. You’ve gone batty this time!

I can see myself out. šŸ™‚

Much luck with finding a rehab person. It’s hard not to try and help the critters when we run across them in dire straits.

Not too long ago, I saved a ding dang armadillo and I hate armadillos, I have sent a few to the other side whilst digging the fuck out of my yard, you would not believe the amount of damage they cause. Holes wide and deep enough to lose a softball in, and I have dogs, I’m fearful of a broken leg, and the amount of holes they dig is staggering, Anyway, while I was heading out to work on the river I saw this thing swimming, if you could call it that, against 10-12″ waves, it was heading across the river, at a point it’s at least a mile and a half wide. I watched as it would take a couple of strokes, then sink a few inches down, and paddle it’s way back to the surface. I could hear it as it came up, taking a deep breath, and repeating the process with very little headway. I knew I had to help it, it would not have got much further, fighting against the waves. Got alongside with the boat, scooped it up headfirst in a bucket. Then drained the water out so it wouldn’t drown in the bucket. Left it in the bucket. Was fearful an angry armadillo incident in the boat, but thankfully it chilled in that bucket. I got it to shore and slowly dumped it out. I told it “Tell your friends what happened here today. And tell them to stop digging up my fucking yard!”

    I’m a little batty myself I suppose…
