Not So Polite Dinner Conversation – another poem!

Found another pious poem where a Christian finds they must lie about atheists.
And my version:

The hour has come – the end is near –
And Yet no god to fear.
No god to care, no threats to find,
just me and my own mind.

The whispers come both faint and strong
“Could all you’ve thought have been so wrong?”
A waste of time and resources spent.
To lies and hate I did consent.

My pride that I knew god’s mind,
Though in truth *that* I could not find.
Was left long before this time had come
I looked at facts and did the sum.

The cross I mock has no power here.
No “truths” invoked by cultists’ fear.
My doubts long shown to be quite true
No one needs a god, not me, not you.

If God were real, why did he fail
To answer prayers, to hear my wail?
Imaginary friends hear no one’s cries:
Cultists have nought but lies.

No mercy from a vicious lord;
just genocide by fire and sword.
Humans can do far better
We are no god’s beholden debtor.

No endless dark, and fiery chains;
Just sadistic fantasies here remain.
Mean children hope for punishment
For those who dare to remain unbent.

The final breath – the fleeting spark –
Gives way to welcoming dark.
I am content.  Death is kind.
I only grieve those still blind.
