Caroline is a great example of how christains dont’ think their arguments through. Here’s my response to her claims about miracles, including that fish story:
It’s great when a Christian shows just how ridiculous her nonsense is. Here, Caroline has discussed the loaves and fishes miracle, one of the many that can’t be shown to have happened. In the bible, thousands of people are supposedly following jesus around (enough men for a roman legion) and they evidently are all too stupid to bring food.
She shows just how ridiculous the claim is. “One of Jesus’s signature miracles is the feeding of the five thousand, recorded by all four Gospel writers. Have you ever wondered what the multiplying of the loaves and fish looked like for the disciples passing them out? Did another chunk of bread suddenly appear in their basket as they reached into it? Did Jesus toss a chunk into each of twelve baskets after he broke the loaves and then when they took them up they were filled with chunks? Did more chunks continually pop into existence underneath those that could be seen in the bottomless baskets of bread?“
The bible literally has that jesus is somehow making extra bread while he’s breaking it up.
“ 19 Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. 20 And all ate and were filled; and they took up what was left over of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full. 21 And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.”
and like any good “fish” story, the numbers of baskets of scraps keeps increasing.
So, despite her claims, bread and fish were literally popping into existence. She tries to claim how awful it is that skeptics want evidence, not just stories. As all Christians do, she has to claim that we “really” wouldn’t accept that, a convenient excuse for someone who has nothing but baseless claims.
and yep, if I did see evidence, I wouldn’t worship such a disgusting creature. How not surprising. As expected, Caroline wants miracles to be less obvious, since she can’t show they happen at all, and something that is dramatic is even harder to claim occurred. Of course, Caroline forgets that seeing a dead guy alive again is very “in your face” so her argument crashes and burns.
This all results in a typical Christian excuse: “God doesn’t need to impress anyone and won’t be manipulated by scoffing skeptics. If the unbeliever has a cogent explanation for how the universe and every amazing thing in it came to exist apart from God, then sure…wait for that impossible limb regeneration before you’ll believe in him. But if not, then just look around you. You’re living in an impossibility.”
Unfortunately for these frauds, their god had no problem giving direct evidence and personal appearances “once upon a time” in their book of fairy tales. Happily, reality is indeed a “possibility”.
The loaves and fishes miracle is nothing more than Christain Magic. This magic can only be performed by God, Jesus, and the Saints and is the only magic Christians can believe in. So, take that Harry Potter.
And if you are a human who can perform Christain magic, they will make you a saint.

Interesting. As I child I accepted this story and moved on with my life. I never considered it “evidence” of anything except that people like to eat, which I already knew.
I soon saw this as another biblical/religious story with some parabolic/metaphorical meaning. If Jesus existed and if he was God (they don’t all agree on that point at that time), then it was a cake walk. Right? He may not have actually invented bread, but fish and wheat, maybe? 🙂
When I was growing up, I often heard of the poor and the starving. I can only assume that Mirical Man, Jesus Christ, was busy with more pressing matters. Like that high school running back making a touchdown in the state championship. Makes sense, right?

heh. curious how this god makes magic food rather regularly in the bible and yet people, including chrisians, die of starvation.
